These upper and lower bands are set above and below the moving average by a certain number of standard deviations of price, thus incorporating volatility.<br \/>\n<strong>Purposes:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Provide a relative definition of high and low prices of a market.<br \/>\n2. Help traders identify sharp, short-term price movements.<br \/>\n3. Indicate the volatility of a stock (narrower bands indicate less volatility while wider ones indicate higher volatility).<br \/>\n6.
